MONTE CHRISTO French Toast Sandwich
The creamy classic sandwich

Steeped in history the Monte Christo is the kind of serious sandwich that deserves a knife and fork!

What you need

  • 6 slices bread (white or wholegrain are fine)
  • 1 Tbsp dijon mustard
  • 6 slices of ham
  • 6 slices of Mainland Egmont Cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 60ml Anchor Blue Top milk
  • 2 Tbsp Mainland Original Butter
  • Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to season

Here's how it's done

  1. For each sandwich, lightly butter three slices of bread on both sides.
  2. Spread three pieces of bread with Dijon mustard (just on top of the butter is fine), then layer with ham and Egmont cheese.
  3. Cut in half diagonally.
  4. Beat the eggs and milk together in a shallow bowl and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Melt butter in a non-stick frying pan on a medium heat.
  6. Dip each sandwich sides, top and bottom into the batter.
  7. When the butter foams place the sandwich in the frying pan and cook until golden brown.
  8. Transfer to plates once golden brown and tuck in!
